We are looking forward to some exciting changes in the Professional Learning space in 2019. Our January holiday professional learning sessions have undergone a make-over; they will have a very practical focus so please bring your laptop or device to all sessions.
January 2019 Professional Learning Schedule
23rd January 2019 – Two sessions, lunch will be provided (book into one or both)
Duty of Care – 9:30 – 11:30am
Written with the assistance of Union lawyers, we cover all aspects of duty of care in a school setting. This is a very practical course where we will examine duty of care using scenarios and by working together on problems in small groups.
Planning and resourcing the first month of Term 1 – 12:15 – 2:15pm
This course has been developed particularly with the Early Career teacher in mind, however teachers of all levels of experience are welcome. Together, we will program and resource your first four weeks of teaching using high quality teaching resources we have available to members. We envisage that participants will have created a teaching and learning program, lesson plans and student resources to accompany these programs for the first 4 weeks of Term by the end of the session.
Make sure you come along and be as prepared as you can be for your first few weeks!
24th January 2019 – Two sessions, lunch will be provided (book into one or both)
How to be a Support Person – 9:30 – 11:30am
This is a course suitable for both experienced and new delegates. We will examine the role of a support person in a school. What are the rights and responsibilities of a support person? How can you fulfil this role effectively?
Resolving Workplace Issues – 12:15 – 2:15pm
This course is suitable for both new and experienced delegates. We will examine processes around resolving issues at a workplace level. By learning from wins that delegates are having across the sector, we aim to equip you with some new skills and update your industrial knowledge so that you too can resolve issues in your school effectively.
25th January 2019 – Two sessions, lunch will be provided (book into one or both)
Classroom Management – 9:30 – 11:30am
This session aims to give participants classroom management techniques that work! Delivery focuses on using evidence-based interactive instructional strategies that increase students’ active participation and classroom engagement, leading to improved social behaviour and outcomes for students. This is a practical session, so come prepared to share strategies and ask lots of questions!
Differentiation – 12:15 – 2:15pm
Differentiation strategies that work! Catering for the needs of all students is necessary to having an engaged and productive classroom. Together, we will explore the idea of differentiating based on student interest, student profile and student readiness and that we can do this by differentiating the content, process or learning environment.

Teacher’s Registration Board: Transitioning Registration and Renewing Registration – 9:30 – 12pm and 12:45 – 3:15pm
Two sessions will run today. They are BOTH THE SAME session. Sessions will be capped at 6 participants each to allow for one to one time with each participant.
By the end of this practical session, you will have created your Teaching Portfolio. You will have an understanding of the types of evidence you can include and how to annotate them and have begun this process. Please bring your laptop and have your login details for the TRB portal.
