COVID-19 Update: Knowing your rights at work

Information about the spread of COVID-19 is as rampant as the virus itself. Please refer to reliable sources such as the Department of Health website – it is there that you will find the most up-to-date measures for the prevention of the virus as well as statistics on its spread.

In addition to the potential health risks, there are other concerns for workers. The ACTU has put together a publication – download it here – which covers your rights at work. Dated 4 March, the booklet is a good resource on work health and safety laws and may answer some of the questions you have.

If you feel you are being discriminated against because of COVID-19, please contact your union. According to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), “Employers cannot discriminate against workers on the basis of race or disability (which can include disease or illness).”
